Backup power: using a 9V battery when your LOQED lock is empty

How to power a LOQED Touch or LOQED Pure temporarily with a 9V battery when the lock battery is empty, including the different backup-power methods for each model.

If the battery inside your LOQED lock is empty, you can temporarily power the lock with a 9V battery. The correct method depends on your lock model.

Quick answer

  • LOQED Touch: hold a 9V battery against the two metal emergency-power pins on the outside Touch Display.

  • LOQED Pure: use the included 9V backup power cable. This cable connects to the motor module on the inside and is routed to the exterior cylinder cover, so Pure can use 9V backup power even without an outside Touch Display.

  • Use backup power only long enough to wake the lock and open the door. After opening, replace or recharge the main batteries as soon as possible.

Before you start

  • Use a fresh rectangular 9V alkaline battery. A high-quality brand such as Duracell usually works best.

  • Keep the door hardware relaxed while opening. If the door is under tension, gently push or pull the door while the motor turns.

  • Do not force the handle, knob, cylinder or motor. If the lock is mechanically stuck, backup power may not solve the problem.

LOQED Touch: use the emergency-power pins on the Touch Display

Use this method for a LOQED Touch Smart Lock, or for a LOQED Pure only if it has the optional LOQED Touch Display and that display provides emergency-power pins.

  1. Find the two metal emergency-power pins on the outside Touch Display.

  2. Hold the 9V battery firmly against the two pins. Polarity is not important for this emergency-power contact.

  3. Keep holding the battery in place for about 30 seconds, until the display wakes up.

  4. While still holding the battery against the pins, open the lock with your PIN code or with the LOQED app if your phone can connect.

  5. Keep the battery connected until the lock has finished opening.

LOQED Pure: use the included 9V backup power cable

LOQED Pure does not have an outside Touch Display by default. For Pure, backup power is provided through the included 9V backup power cable.

  • The cable plugs into the motor module on the inside of the door.

  • The cable is routed to the exterior cylinder cover, so a 9V battery can be connected from outside when the Pure battery pack is depleted.

  • For this to work from outside, the backup cable must be installed and accessible at the exterior cylinder cover.

  1. Connect a fresh 9V battery to the backup power cable at the exterior cylinder cover.

  2. Wait about 20 to 30 seconds for the lock to power up.

  3. Open the door with the LOQED app or with a paired Shelly BLU Button Tough 1 ZB. If your Pure has the optional Touch Display, you may also be able to use the display functions.

  4. Keep the 9V battery connected until the lock has finished opening.

  5. After opening the door, recharge the Pure battery pack with the included power adapter.

Troubleshooting

The lock does not wake up

  • Try a new 9V alkaline battery. Many partially used 9V batteries cannot deliver enough power.

  • For LOQED Touch, make sure the battery terminals touch both emergency-power pins firmly.

  • For LOQED Pure, make sure the 9V backup cable is connected correctly and has not been damaged or tucked away inside the cylinder cover.

The lock wakes up but does not open

  • Keep the 9V battery connected while opening.

  • Gently push or pull the door to remove pressure from the latch or deadbolt.

  • If the motor turns but the door does not unlock, the door or mortise lock may be mechanically binding.

You are outside and the Pure backup cable is not accessible

If the Pure backup cable was not routed to the exterior cylinder cover during installation and you cannot access the inside of the door, contact LOQED support or a locksmith. Do not drill or force the lock unless instructed by a professional.

After you get inside

  • LOQED Touch: replace the 8 AA batteries or recharge them if you use the LOQED PowerKit with rechargeable batteries.

  • LOQED Pure: recharge the built-in rechargeable battery pack with the included power adapter.

  • Open the LOQED app afterwards and check that the lock responds normally.
