Touch to Open lets you unlock your LOQED Touch Smart Lock with a single touch on the Touch Display – without reaching for your phone. It is enabled by default and works automatically when you arrive home. It combines geofencing, Bluetooth and the lock’s two antennas to know exactly when you are at your door and on which side of it.
Good to know: your lock has two Bluetooth antennas – one in the inside module (the motor module with the knob) and one in the outside module (the Touch Display). By comparing the Bluetooth signal strength to each antenna, the lock can tell whether your phone is inside or outside.
How does Touch to Open work?
You leave and come back. Touch to Open is triggered when you leave the area around your lock and then return. This area is a geofence with a radius of 500 metres (default) around your lock’s location.
Your arrival wakes the lock. As you re-enter the 500 m geofence, your phone sends an arrival message to the lock. Both Bluetooth antennas wake up and the lock stays active for 20 minutes. During those same 20 minutes, your phone scans for the lock. (This step needs a LOQED Bridge with Wi-Fi.)
The lock works out which side of the door you are on. As you approach, the lock compares the Bluetooth signal strength between your phone and the inside antenna with the signal between your phone and the outside antenna. This happens in a split second and tells the lock whether you are inside or outside.
“Touch to Open” appears. Once the lock determines that you are on the outside, it switches on the Touch Display and shows Touch to Open.
You touch to open. Tap the display briefly once and the door unlocks (or opens, depending on your settings). make sure your phone has the correct settings and permissions.
The lock goes back to sleep. After a successful open – or after the 20-minute timer ends – both antennas go back to sleep. Touch to Open reactivates the next time you leave and re-enter the 500 m geofence.
Only for the person who arrives
Touch to Open only activates for the phone (the key) that triggered the geofence by leaving and returning. If another household member walks up to the door without having left and re-entered the geofence first, the display will not show Touch to Open for them. This keeps the feature secure: the lock is only “listening” for the person who just arrived, and only for 20 minutes.
Staying close to home? Use Touch to Connect
Because Touch to Open needs you to leave and return, it will not activate if you stay within the 500 m radius – for example when you take out the trash, pop to a neighbour or visit a nearby shop. For those situations you can enable Touch to Connect, which lets you wake the lock yourself with a touch. Touch to Connect is optional and comes with some security considerations, so we recommend reading that article before turning it on.
Open even faster with Auto Unlock
By default, Touch to Open waits for you to touch the display. If you would like the door to be ready even sooner, you can enable Auto Unlock (off by default) in the LOQED app under your lock’s settings.
With Auto Unlock enabled – only in the Touch to Open scenario – the lock already retracts the night lock (deadbolt) as you approach, as soon as your phone has been authenticated and the inside/outside check has passed. By the time you reach the door, the deadbolt is already unlocked and you only need to touch the display to retract the day latch and enter.
This is safe: the day latch never retracts on its own – it only retracts when you touch the display. So the door will never spring open just because you walk past your house.
Make sure it is set up correctly
Touch to Open relies on your phone being able to reach the lock in the background. Check that the LOQED app is allowed to run in the background and that location and Bluetooth permissions are granted. For the full checklist, see Touch to Open requirements and permissions.
