What is the Shelly Blu Button feature?
The Shelly Blu Button feature allows you to control your LOQED smart lock using a compact, battery-powered Bluetooth button. Once paired, the button communicates directly with the lock over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), giving you fast and convenient keyless access without needing your phone.
The button uses two simple actions:
Single press: locks the door.
Double press: opens the door.
The button is a great solution when you want quick physical control of the lock without reaching for your phone.
Where to buy
If you do not yet have a Shelly Blu Button, we recommend the Shelly BLU Button Tough 1 ZB. It supports the standard four-click pairing, works seamlessly with your LOQED lock, and is also included in the box with the LOQED Pure. You can order it directly from the Shelly website.

How to set up a Shelly Blu Button
Any administrator of a lock can add a Bluetooth button. The setup process is guided step by step in the app. Follow these steps:
Open the LOQED app and select the lock you want to pair the button with.
Go to Keys.
Scroll to the Bluetooth Buttons section and tap Add new button.
Follow the on-screen instructions. The app will ask you to put the button into pairing mode:
For the Shelly BLU Button Tough 1 ZB (included with LOQED Pure): press the button four times in quick succession.
For the Shelly BLU Button Tough 1: press and hold the button for 10 seconds until you hear a rapid beeping sound.
The app will scan for the button and automatically complete the pairing and encryption key exchange once it is detected.
Give the button a name so you can identify it later.
The button is now paired and ready to use. A single press will lock the door and a double press will open the door.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble pairing or using your Shelly Blu Button, try the following steps:
Button not found during pairing
Make sure the button is in pairing mode. The app will show you the specific instructions for your button model. If the scan times out, make sure the button is close to your phone and try again.Button already bonded to your iPhone (iOS only)
If you previously attempted to pair the button on an iPhone, your phone may have bonded to it at the Bluetooth system level, preventing re-pairing. To resolve this, go to Settings → Bluetooth on your iPhone, find the Shelly button in the list of devices, tap the info icon ⓘ next to it, and select Forget This Device. Then return to the LOQED app and try pairing again.Connection fails after the button is found
Remove the battery from the button, wait 30 seconds, and reinsert it. Immediately after reinserting, hold the button for 60 seconds to perform a factory reset. Then start the pairing process again from the app.Button is not operating the lock
Make sure you are within Bluetooth range of the lock (up to 10 metres). The button communicates directly with the lock over Bluetooth and does not work remotely.
Frequently asked questions
Can I also single click to open the door?
We deliberately chose not to make this an option, as it is easy to accidentally press the button once. We would rather you accidentally lock the door than accidentally open it.
Can I remotely open the door with a Bluetooth button?
You need to be within Bluetooth range (up to 10 metres) to be able to operate the door. The button communicates directly with the lock over Bluetooth and cannot trigger the lock from a distance.
Am I vulnerable to replay or relay attacks by someone cloning my Bluetooth signal?
No. Every button press is protected by AES-CCM encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard in Counter with CBC-MAC mode). Each encrypted signal includes a 32-bit counter that increments with every press. The lock stores the highest counter value it has ever seen for each paired button and will reject any incoming signal whose counter is not strictly greater than that stored value. This means that even if someone records your Bluetooth signal and attempts to replay it later, the counter in the captured signal will already be equal to or lower than what the lock has on record — making the replay attempt completely ineffective.
What happens if someone loses a button?
Any administrator can delete a button from the app, immediately making it unusable on the lock. The lock will no longer accept any signals from the removed button.
What happens when the batteries run out?
Depending on usage, the batteries last about two years. After replacing the battery, you will need to delete the button from the app and set it up again. This is because the encryption safety function loses its reference point when the button loses power completely — the internal counter resets, which could otherwise be exploited. Setting up the button again re-establishes a secure, trusted connection.
